Genius Hour TED Talk

I have finally finished my TED talk all about my genius hour project on how RPGs can be used in the classroom.  I have embedded the Youtube video of my TED talk below.  I unfortunately filmed it with a big of a cold so my voice is a little scratchy.  Still I enjoyed this whole genius hour project I did.  I'm still considering doing continual updates on it, discussing how RPGs can be used within the classroom.  Perhaps devise some more activities or ways of organizing the class around RPGs and post them.  I would of course appreciate any constructive feedback on my TED talk or on any of my other posts for my genius hour.  I hope this was as enriching of an experience for you as it was for me.  Enjoy my TED talk!

  1. Hi Michael,

Thanks for being one of the few brave souls who actually submitted their TED talk before the due date. Firstly, I would like to compliment you on your professional attire and the simple clean background that you chose to sit in front of for your video. I found that the TED talk was the most daunting task in our digital portfolio as it is very research heavy. Your TED talk was a good example of the amount of research that is required to fill the length of a TED talk and to add validity behind what you are talking about. I did find your video to be quite dry as it seemed to be a regurgitation of facts. You are such a funny and smiley guy and I think that we didn't really get a chance to see that in your talk. I* know that you were sick when creating this video, so kudos to you for completing this task...but if you were to ever create another TED talk for a different class, include some aspects of humour and maybe some colourful visuals to make it more engaging for viewers. Regardless you did a great job overall, as it is clear the amount of effort you put in this assignment in respect to the research component.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Brittany

  2. Hey Michael!

Great job with your Ted Talk! I do agree with Brittany in the sense to add a little more humour to your talk. I do like the examples that you used to validate your facts! That was really helpful in getting a full understanding of your talk! You look very professional but I would choose a background that is a little more exciting to keep the viewers engaged.

All in all great job !

  3. Hello Michael!

Excellent Ted Talk! It provides most of us who are working to perfect their Ted Talk but were too afraid to submit it yet an opportunity to reflect on our own work and learn from you! I thought your mirrored the expectations, and it shows an extensive amount of detail and preparation. Perhaps it would be a good idea to further engage your body language to further capture your audience and reflect your personal character when representing the RPG.

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Good job Michael, The sound is nice and clear and I like the professional attire. I would suggest maybe for next time you make a video of this sort to make add some visual in the background to make it more colorful and vibrant for the listener to whom you are speaking to. It would of been good to maybe change the tone of voice here and there to keep the listeners fully engaged in your TedTalk. However you used the time giving to you very well, and didn't run out of information, I can tell you did your research. Great job, keep up the good work ! :)
